Aranjuez

04.09.2010

Laupäev/Saturday

Kell 11:30 kohtusime The Puerta del Soli metroo peatuses Kyle koolikaaslastega, et sõita Aranjuezi väikelinna.

........................................................................................

At 11:30 we were meeting people from Kyle’s school in Puerta del Sol metro stop to go to small town called Aranjuez. It took us 45 minutes to get there with the train.

Aranjuez, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2001, includes the old quarter the royal palaces, and gardens are on the banks of the Tagus river. Together they form a beautiful balance between nature and man, the watercourses and the design of the gardens, between the woods and the palace architecture. The festival to commemorate the Revolt of Aranjuez is an excellent time to visit the city. During the festival you can see representations of the storming of the Palace of Godoy, the descent of the Tagus and musical performances, along with the Goyesco art and crafts fair. The town remembers the historic event (which eventually resulted in the abdication of King Charles IV) with a re-enactment on the river Tajo and in the Palacio Real. Altogether, about 200 people are involved and a mock-up of the palace of Godoy is built especially for the occasion. Other events include a pirate battle, a running of the bulls and a carriage parade

First thing we saw in the city was Royal Palace. It was so awesome. The King is still using it for his summer home. The palace is surrounded by beautiful gardens. We took a tour inside the palace too and it was amazing.

We ate lunch in the market near the palace, where people were selling fresh food and different souvenirs. We were tasting different kinds of hams and cheeses. Everything was so good. Spanish people eat so much ham here, but I can’t blame, because it’s delicious. We even tried Spanish blood sausage. It was good, but a little bit different than Estonian blood sausage. After lunch we drinked a cup of green tea what helped us to fight with the hot weather. After the tour in the palace, me, Kyle and 3 other people went back to the city. There supposed to be a small concert in the town, but didn’t want to wait 4 hours, because it was siesta time and all the streets were empty. Before going home we all went to eat something. It was good to get out from the city and see the small town life. Really refreshing!!!

Later in the evening we went out with some people to hang out in some bars.

Seiklus kaardiga linna peal/Adventure with the city map

Reede/Friday

Kyle pidi koolis tegema presentatsiooni ükskõik millisel teemal.

No mida veel, ihiiii.

Jessus, need prostituudid on eriti odavad, haha.

Homme on meil ekskursioon Aranjuezi linna 45 minutit linnast välja. Ootan põnevusega.

........................................................................................

Kyle had to do a presentation at school about anything. He decided to talk about- What have I learned during the days I’ve been in Madrid? His speech was really funny when he told me what he was talking about. On Friday he found out that his presentation was the best. YAY!!! Teacher even told him that if he learned spanish, he could get really good job in Madrid, I guess that means that he is good at teaching. I’m proud of him!

Last week I wrote about one apartment what we were looking at. It’s for short term and it includes everything. Yesterday I paid the deposit and we can move in September 13. We got a good price for 2,5 months. We can always move from there, all we are loosing is the deposit. It’s a little bit expensive right now, because we both don’t work, but it’s also a good deal, because it includes everything. We don’t have to worry about where to get cabel or internet. We don’t have to buy towls, cleaning things, kitchen stuff etc. We can just move in. It’s 15 minutes from Kyle’s school and to the central it’s 30 minutes walk, but I think we are going to use metro, it’s easier. I’ll tell you more about the apartment soon.

Now the funny story how I was looking for the meeting place to pay the apartment deposit. The guy from the company gave me the name of the metro stop. I looked it up on the map and started to walk. After 30 minutes I still haven’t found that place. I asked directions from three different people and all of them told me to go different directions. Well to be honest I didn’t even understand what they were saying, because they were speaking in spanish. It was so hot outside and my shoes were hurting my feet. I called the guy and told him that I’m not finding the meeting place. He tried to explane a little bit, but his english is not so good. Finally he said that he can wait for me 10 more minutes and then he have to leave. I was starting to run random direction, just hoping that this is the right way and it was. There was two metro stops with the same name on the map. I’m not using that map again. I finally found the place. I was so tired. I paid the deposit and started to walk back home. On the way I steped on the gum and everything on the ground- papers, leaves etc were stuck on my shoes, lol. What else is going to happen with me? After walking 2 minutes I saw my hostel. Really? The meeting place was in the same street and only 2 minutes from my hostel. I just started to laugh. I was walking with this hot weather for 40 minutes to wrong direction. Like a comedy movie... :D I’m really bad using maps, lol :D

In the evening Kyle went out with his friends from school. I was so tired and stayed in a hostel. I watched a movie and went to bed early. Kyle came home just before I fell asleep and told me about his adventure in the city. He had fun night and on the way home 4 hookers were hitting on him and said lets fucki, lets fucki, 5 euros. That was the only thing they could say in english and wow, only 5 euros. Hookers here are really cheap.

Tomorrow we are going to a small town Aranjuez near the city with Kyle’s school.

Tutvumispidu/Party

02.09.2010

Neljapäev/Thursday

Minu järjekordne põnev päev üksinda hostelis, kuna Kyle on koolis päeval.

Lindsey on tüdruku nimi.

........................................................................................

Another boring day in a hostel, because Kyle is at school and I don’t have anything to do besides looking for a job. He gets home usually after 3 o’clock and what am I doing all day long?Usually I’m watching tv in spanish, watching some movies, surfing in the internet, looking for a job or taking a walk around the city, because I don’t want to be inside all day long.

When Kyle got home today we went for a walk, ate dinner and came back home for siesta time. In the evening one girl from Kyle’s school was inviting everybody to her place to hang out. Lindsey and her boyfriend, who is teacher in Madrid too, found already apartment and were thinking about doing a little party so people can meet each other. Their apartment is located in Plaza Mayor and it’s awesome. The apartment is really nice and the view is amazing. The view is over the Plaza Mayor. Everybody were a little bit jealous, lol :D The night was fun, but it didn’t last long, becauseeverybody had to go to school next day. We were heading back home around midnight.

Õhtul tegi Kyle avastuse, et miks tekil pole lina all.

........................................................................................

Early in the morning we moved to our 4th home already. This time it was a little bit cheaper hostel.Hopefully we can stay here until we find an apartment, because I don’t want to move again. After we brought the bags in the hostel Kyle went to school. I stayed in a hostel and started to look for a job online again.

We haven’t been eating a lot lately and we are so hungry all the time, it’s because we both don’t have job yet, so we are not spending a lot of money on food. It doesn’t mean that we are starving, just eating less than normally. There are so many interesting food what we want to try and we will, but not right now. At least we are not gaining any weight, lol :D

Prostitution is legal in Spain, pimping is not. There are couple of streets where they are hanging during night time and also during day time. Yes, Spain has day time hookers :D Funny is that they are all leaning against the trees, like in a line. I’m being honest all the hookers are not pretty at all, not even one.

In the evening Kyle discovered that blanket doesn’t have a sheet under it. I explained that you put sheet on the bed and blanket goes inside the blanket cover and that’s it. He was like no, we have to go and ask for another sheet. It was so funny. People do things differently and most of the times hotels use second sheet for blanket. During the time when Kyle was doing homework I was watching tv. I think that after half an hour I realized that I don’t understand anything what they are saying on tv, because it was in spanish. I was just so concentrated, mayby I was trying to understand :D

Leidsime toidupoe :)/ We found a grocery store :)

30.08.2010-31.08.2010

...............................................................................

Kyle is at school and I’m sitting in a hotel, trying to find an apartment. We have been calling a lot of people and most of them don’t speak english, so it’s really hard to explain something on the phone. We got spanish cell phone too. Right now only one, because Kyle needs it. His school is sending messages about everything to him. I am going to get one too if I need it.

Since the day we arrived we haven’t seen any grocery stores. How is that possible? But.. Today we found huge mall- 9 floors and there is also big grocery store. Buying food from there is so much cheaper than eating out. I can’t wait to find a place to live and start cooking at home. We have to move out from this hotel on Wednesday, move again, so I found a cheaper hostel for us. We are moving there early in the morning before Kyle goes to school.

Kyle is already doing homework, that’s cool. Mayby if I get a job I will go take a couple of weeks spanish course.

I haven’t told you guys that we found one apartment through one agency. Usually people rent it for short term, because it includes everything- water, electricity, internet, cabel, blankets, sheets, towls etc. You have everything you need, you just have to move in. I’ll let you know if we are going to get it or not. It’s really hard to find an apartment only for short term, so this would be the best choice.

Bussi ekskursioon Madriidis/Madrid bus tour

29.08.2010

We decided to sleep long time today, because it was Sunday and we didn’t have to be anywhere. It felt so good after, because we have been waiking up early every day.

We called some places again and even went to see 1 apartment, but it wasn’t that good.

At 5 o’clock we went to take a bus tour around Madrid. It was about 2 hours long. We saw a lot of really awesome places where we want to go, found one farmers market, malls etc. Now we know where everything is.

Our night ended with delicious dinner in a small cafe near the hotel. Tomorrow is Monday and Kyle is going to school. What am I going to do??? Find a place to live and a job of course. Those things are number 1 priority and after that we can start relaxing and having fun :D

Vahva laupäev/Fun Sunday :)

28.08.2010

Laupäev/Saturday

Ärkasin varakult et hakata otsima uut hotelli, kuna pidime praegusest hotellist ära minema. Hotell kus me peatusime helistas ühte teise hotelli ja saime hea pakkumise 2ks päevaks.

Tuleb ruttu keel selgeks õppida, see teeb asjad hoopis kergemaks.

..............................................................................

We woke up early, because we had to move from this hotel, it was all booked. At least the hotel called another hotel and got a good deal for us and it was just across the street. It’s our third hotel already, o my god. I just want to find an apartment for us and a job would be good too.

This hotel has 3 tv channels what are in english, yay. All the channels are in spanish here. I think they don’t know anything about subtitles. We should tell them to use those, lol. Again we started to call the apartments and went to see 2 places. They were both ok, but the owners want to rent it out minimum for a year, but that’s not working for us, because we don’t know yet if we are staying in Madrid. It depends where Kyle is going to get a job.

We found Plaza de Espana, what was really cool. Plaza de España (or "Spain Square" in English) is a large square, and popular tourist destination, located in cent Madrid, Spain, at the western end of the Gran Vía. It features a monument to Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, aralnd is bordered by two of Madrid's most prominent skyscrapers. We also were trying to find movie theatre, but all the movies are in spanish here. That sucks :D. We found a small place where you can see some movies in english, but not a lot. I guess we can go and check that place out one time.

In the evening me, Kyle and Pol (from the school) went to the irish bar to drink some beers and eat tapas. We even heard some english in that bar, so mayby that’s the place to be. It’s really hard to be in a city what language you don’t speak. Only thing I can think about is to learn the language really quickly. It would make things so much easier.
